    4. Flash T-Beam

How to Flash TTGO T-Beam (ESP32)

Program your T-Beam for OGN/FLARM transmission

The TTGO T-Beam is an ESP32-based development board with LoRa radio and GPS. When flashed with OGN-Tracker firmware, it enables your Stratux to transmit your position to other aircraft via OGN, FLARM, FANET, or PAW protocols.

    What You Need

    • TTGO T-Beam v1.1 or v1.2 (with SX1276 for 868MHz)
    • USB-C cable (data capable, not charge-only)
    • Computer with Chrome browser (for Web Flasher)
    • 18650 battery (optional but recommended)

    Install USB Drivers

Download and install the CP2104 USB driver for your operating system. Windows may need manual driver installation. macOS and Linux usually work automatically.

    2

    Connect T-Beam to Computer

Connect your T-Beam to your computer using a USB-C data cable. The device should be recognized and a new COM port should appear. Note the port number (e.g., COM3 on Windows, /dev/ttyUSB0 on Linux).

    3

    Open Web Flasher

Open Chrome and navigate to the OGN-Tracker web flasher at esp.huhn.me or the official OGN flasher. Web Serial requires Chrome, Edge, or Opera browser.

    4

    Select Firmware

Download the latest OGN-Tracker firmware binary for T-Beam from the OGN wiki. Select the correct version for your T-Beam hardware (v1.1 or v1.2) and frequency (868MHz for Europe).

    5

    Flash the Firmware

Click 'Connect' in the web flasher and select your T-Beam's COM port. Upload the firmware binary and click 'Flash'. The process takes about 1-2 minutes. Do not disconnect during flashing.

    6

    Configure the Device

After flashing, the T-Beam creates a WiFi access point for configuration. Connect to it and open 192.168.4.1 in your browser. Set your aircraft type, address, and transmission protocol (OGN recommended).

    7

    Connect to Stratux

Connect the T-Beam to your Stratux via USB. Stratux EU firmware automatically detects OGN-Tracker devices and integrates them for position transmission.

    Important Notes

    • Ensure you have the SX1276 variant for 868MHz European operation
    • Register your OGN device ID at glidernet.org for tracking
    • FLARM transmission requires proper licensing in some countries
    • The 18650 battery provides backup during power interruptions
